COURSE OVERVIEW

The Qur’an mentions creating male and female from the same soul, a “divine breath”, which means that there is no spiritual superiority or inferiority inherent in Islam. Rather, it is a matter of what men and women do. So, there is absolute equality between men and women in Islam.

Islam emphasizes the dignity of the human whether he or she is with faith or without faith; this dignity applies to women as much as it applies to men. All are given the divine breath – a symbol of spirituality that Allah (s) endowed human beings with.

The Qur’an speaks of the notion of humankind being on earth as trustees of Allah (s). When the Qur’an mentions this dignified role, to live on this earth, develop and benefit from it, the Book of God does not distinguish between men and women. There is no distinction that men are the custodians on this earth, rather it is the responsibility of both men and women to inherit the earth as lawful and just caretakers.
